A website can be full of broken links and other errors, which are difficult to find. If you don't want to comb numerous HTML files for errors, you can use Total Validator to make your life easier. This lightweight application can validate a website's accessibility, perform spell check and identify broken links. The best part is that you can execute all these operations with a single click.

Total Validator is available in free and paid versions, for Windows, Mac and Linux. It should be obvious that you have to upgrade to the paid version if you want more features. Downloading the 4.23 MB setup package and installing the application does not take more than a minute. Moreover, it is definitely worth mentioning that Total Validator is available as a browser extension as well, for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

All you have to do is load an HTML file, on a tabbed interface, and make a few settings, according to your needs. If you wish to validate more than one page, you must target your website's start page. The application is capable of validating files in various HTML and XHTML versions. You can select one in a drop menu, in which you can also select an Auto-detect option.

Other selections can be made for Accessibility and CSS validation. You can also set Total Validator to perform a spell check in American or British English, French or other languages. If you want to check for broken links, you just need to click a check box. Finally, you can choose a validation level. Depending on your selection, the application will report nothing but errors, ignore warnings or report all problems.

When you are ready, you may hit the Validate button, located in the lower region of the window. When the validation process is complete, the application will display the results on your default web browser.

Pros

You can validate an entire website, check for broken links and more. The application supports numerous HTML and XHTML versions. You can also perform spell checks in various languages.

Cons

The free version comes with locked functions. Total Validator gives you the possibility of checking entire websites for various errors, with nothing more than a simple click.
